Hirundo Horticulture

At the core of the company’s commitment to sustainability lies the Hirundo Horticulture division, which specializes in the development of modern plantations of drought-tolerant fruit and nut species, specifically the date palm, pomegranate, and pistachio nut, which are ideally suited to the Australian climate.
Hirundo Horticulture’s expertise centers on date palms, a crop adaptable to arid environments. By collaborating with experienced plant breeders and tissue culture laboratories, the division develops improved cultivars better suited to the Australian climate, enhancing resilience and productivity in water-scarce conditions.
By capitalizing on Australia’s unique climatic advantages, we aim to provide agriculture land operators with new opportunities to improve sustainability across their operations.
Born through earlier produce-sourcing activities for Hirundo Foods, the division was inspired by the realization that high-value fruit and nut crops such as dates and pistachios were surprisingly limited in Australia, despite the country’s ideal climatic conditions for their cultivation.
Hirundo Horticulture will have the capacity to provide a full-scope service, from supplying plant material, operational equipment, and ongoing inputs, through to providing technical services and operational support for new and existing plantation developments.
Innovation is the driving force behind our Horticulture Division. We invest heavily in research and development to create improved fruit and nut cultivars that will excel in the Australian climate, and we also work to develop technologies to support sustainable and efficient plantation operations.
By teaming up with some of the world’s best experts in the relevant horticulture, agronomy, and soil science fields, Hirundo Horticulture is rapidly positioning itself to lead the way in modern and sustainable food crop horticulture.
Hirundo Horticulture is currently developing its plant stocks and import approvals for specialised plant materials. We expect to have our first specialised plant material available by mid to late 2024.
